What our customers say about their holidays

We spent a lovely week here.
Great to be so central to Ambleside but with fell views and a spacious living room. Clean. Beds comfortable. First impressions werenât great especially with a four year old. Cracked glass in the casement windows including at small child height (patched on Monday when I could first get through to Lakelovers); open views of the bathroom from the road; tight parking; loose glass tops on the bedside tables (main room); lots of stairs; slightly too large a gap for my liking in the bannister railings at the top corner (which is probably only noticeable when small child has climbed next to it as itâs behind another hand rail), small steps into/out of most of the rooms, floors generally very uneven, a bit of a musty smell in the internal corridor (think due to the cupboard at the end) and a bit of dark dank feeling in the entrance and stairs. Overall, it felt a bit unsafe with a little one but we only had a couple of tumbles on the steps into the rooms, and once weâd got used to it, it was fine. But I wouldnât recommend for toddlers who are less stable or safe on stairs. I would also suggest changing the beds in the twin room at some point - I ended up with some lovely bruises from the corner (which juts out) when walking through the gap to the window. But overall, we enjoyed it, especially exploring the games in the cupboard, were sad to leave and would happily return.

Pros of Barn End: Newly renovated cottage, tastefully decorated and clean.
Well equipped kitchen and fantastic log burner ( bring your own logs) to dry off by. Location very close to a pub and plenty of public footpaths nearby. Electric radiators that were easy to use and kept our towels nice and toasty Cons of Barn End Grade ii listed building means single glazed windows which can be noisy next to the road. We struggled to keep the place free of damp without the log burner lit ( it was a very rainy week in October) including the shower room that only had a noisy extractor fan. The bed looked more comfortable on the photos and we even tried flipping the (2 zipped together) mattresses to see if it would help. The sofa was also a bit uncomfortable to sit on for longer periods of time (which we did because of the rain!) Overall I was happy with my holiday and have learned to expect these things in any case so decide for yourself, we also didn't work out the electric shower until most of the way through the week and had been using the eco setting which was quite low pressure. The high setting seems to have temperamental temperature control being an electric shower, I'd recommend having a fiddle with it to get the right temperature. Parking was also just off the road and I could easily fit my mazda 2 in the space but not sure about larger cars

I think the description of the property being in the Rolling Country side away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world needs reviewing seen as you are right on a very busy noisy road.
It also states you have a parking space but when you arrive it seems you have to park in the barn as if you park on the small space in front of the barn and go out you are blocking someone else's barn and they may need Access. We have a 3 series BMW to get this in our allocated barn we had to pull in the mirrors and only had literally space of about 5mm each side and back of the car . Good job we have a good driver in the family. Both of these points I feel should be stated in the listings. On to the good points: cottage was very nice inside Living room comfortable love the barn door especially as there is no outside space although we closed it at times due to traffic noise Had a television that works lots don't now Kitchen lovely with all cooking utensils needed and a small breakfast bar to eat meals at Bedroom also really nice just enough cupboard space , I found the bed really comfortable Bathroom also nicely done . I found the cottage to be clean and airy. May need a freshen up with paint work soon to Keep it in this nice condition. To sum up parking / noise of the busy road not good but the cottage itself is really nice

What a lovely place to stay.
The cottage had everything we could possibly need for self catering. It was very comfortable, lovely big bed. Nice modern shower room and kitchen. Great location with walks right from the door down to the lake at Windermere and Wray Castle. And a nice pub just 2 mins walk away. Hadnt realised so much would be provided in terms of dishwasher tablets, tea towels, etc so that was a bonus. The little box of tea bags and biscuits etc was a nice touch too. Only negatives were that it was freezing cold inside when we arrived and took ages to warm up once we put the heating on. The towel rail in the bathroom didnât work but we reported that so hopefully already fixed. And we only tried parking inside the barn onceâ¦â¦ very tight and we donât have a particularly big car. And we got back to find weâd been blocked in by someone else parking in our outside space. None of these would stop us booking again though, we had a great time and thought everything was a really high standard. Thank you!

We have just returned from staying and im disappointed by the quality and cleanliness of the apartment.
There was only 1 glass in the kitchen (apart from wines glasses) in the cupboard there was a broken plate and cracked mug. The floors are so dirty. I donât think they have been hoovered in a while. I dropped something under the sofa and was disgusted by the clumps of dust and hair on the floor. We had to wear socks all the weekend as you wouldnât walk bare foot (would recommend taking slippers) There was loads of hairs everywhere. In had to clean the bath before using it and there was so many hairs in the bed. I had to lit roller the bed but still couldnât get them all. The amenities are really poor, only got 1 toilet roll, no hand soap in the bathroom, no logs for the fire. We come to celebrate a special birthday and I spent the first day cleaning and it basically put a damper on the whole weekend. The apartment has so most potential as the location and apartment could be great but itâs looking tired, lacks the basics and isnât clean.
