What our customers say about their holidays
Sarah - Verified booking
The house was lovely, great location and we would definitely stay again however there were a few things we wish we had been aware of.
-Parking situation was not clear before booking, we had a baby with us who requires the kitchen sink to leave the house so was a bit annoying! Also an a bit annoying having to block each other in if you've got multiple cars as we often wanted to get out early to be on the hills and we had to plan the parking order accordingly. -Stairs are quite twisty, not an issue for us but worth noting on listing. -It rained whilst we were staying, the chimney of the master bedroom fireplace had water dripping down and splashing into the room. I had put our cot in front of it and it got wet. -Lack of curtains in the master bedroom was an issue for baby bedtime! The windows are a tricky shape (and not an issue for most people probably!) but investing in some black out blinds to go with the cot and high chair (and some window cleaner to get the marks of window on leaving, sorry) would be a good investment. -Sensor for light in master bathroom was on very short timer and the door didn't stay shut without a lot of pulling then locking it! -Low lights on stairs were not working (may have been a switch I didn't spot) -Whilst generally clean the house could do with a deep clean, under the sofas was very dusty (and of course our baby found every dust bunny and tried to eat them) Velux windows also really need a clean from outside. -GIANT spider in pantry! -We really liked the info on local walks in the visitor book, really helpful -Really great how dog friendly the house is -Great social living space layout -Good selection of games, questionable music taste in the CD's! Very much enjoyed them anyway! -Lovely garden, really snug in the rain and sunny at the end -Noted you had addressed previous reviews re having basics in the kitchen like salt and pepper, much appreciated not having to buy for a weeks visit!

The property was superb, centrally located and extremely well equipped.
The only downside was the lack of WI-FI for the full duration of our stay. The property is advertised as being equipped with WI-FI but a check of prior reviews also noted âissuesâ so it was clearly still an on going concern and a heads up prior to our arrival would have been good so we could have been better prepared. However the first we knew of the problem was a hand written note left by LakeLovers advising that they hoped the problem would be rectified that day (Saturday 27th August) but that was not the case. There was no further communication from LakeLovers until we chased on Tuesday 30th following the Bank Holiday. We were told someone needed to visit the property to âcomplete set upâ and we waited in for some on the morning of Thursday 1st Sept however, no one turned up. We spoke to LakeLovers again and they, again, confirmed that they needed to attend the property so we waited in again on Friday afternoon for someone to come. This time someone did attend but was unable to rectify the issue. It was still unresolved upon our departure. We specifically booked the property based on the need for internet connectivity as I had work commitments during the week so it did make life somewhat difficult and impacted upon our stay based on our having to wait in for someone to attend the property. As noted prior warning from LakeLovers before our arrival would have given us the opportunity to prepare and to rearrange work commitments and we were also disappointed at the lack of proactivity from LakeLovers regarding what is clearly a long standing issue. LakeLovers also advised that a full case review would be conducted and we would be contacted in due course to discuss further, at this current time we are still awaiting contact and the feedback promised.

Book this cottage!
We nearly didnât book because of the mixed reviews, but please donât let these put you off. Acorn cottage is quaint and beautiful, you canât beat the location - 30 seconds walk in to Grassmere, and plenty of walks for all abilities from the door. Youâre only a short drive away from other areas of the lakes for day trips - Ambleside, Keswick. Parking is really no problem - we have a Honda Civic which fit with plenty of room. Outside there are two sets of garden furniture. The garden isnât secure so stick the dog on a long line. Inside the cottage is sparkling clean and comes with a lovely welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk sachets and biscuits. Thereâs also a little cleaning pack with bin bags, washing tablets and dish cloth. The kitchen is well equipped with absolutely everything you will need, the living room is lovely and cosy (especially with a roaring fire!) and the beds are very comfy. Heavy curtains perfect for winter and easy to use central heating. The shower is nice and hot after a long day in the fells. It would be a squeeze for 4 people but as a couple or family with children itâs perfect. We didnât use the Wi-Fi so canât comment on that, but hopefully youâre thinking of staying there as a holiday and not to work! Get out and enjoy the Lakes. We had a Saturday to Wednesday stay and absolutely loved it, we did so much and we could have done more. TIPS / NEED TO KNOW - Yes, the stairs up to the cottage are steep and not suitable for those who struggle with mobility - Bring a towel to lay on the floor for dirty shoes, thereâs a shoe cupboard but limited room - You will need: logs, more toilet roll, washing up liquid, salt and pepper, cooking oil, milk - Tweedies is the best for food and drinks

Acorn Cottage in Grasmere presents a bit of a conundrum!
It's evident that the owners spared no expense in renovating and refurbishing the property to a high standard several years ago, with top-of-the-range white goods in the kitchen and quality furnishings throughout. However, time has taken its toll, and the cottage now appears quite worn, with an urgent need for a full redecoration and soft furnishing replacements in several rooms to restore it to its former glory. In addition to requiring a complete redecoration, it needs a thorough spring clean to refresh its appearance. The paintwork, windows and doors are all quite grimy and necessitate attention beyond the customary cleaning after guest departures. If we had our grandchildren with us, we would not have felt comfortable placing them in the stained and unclean highchair. Additionally, the property's eco credentials are less than ideal, as all windows are single-glazed, and prone to being cold and draughty. At the outset of our stay, we discovered that the TV aerial cable was damaged, resulting in no TV reception. We contacted Lakelovers in the morning, and their maintenance personnel promptly replaced the cable within a couple of hours - full credit to them for their efficient response. In the meantime, as the WIFI signal was good, we were able to stream Netflix, iPlayer, etc to our devices. Despite its shortcomings, we found the location of the property to be ideal as it was just a short walk from the charming centre of Grasmere. We enjoyed our brief stay there and appreciated the convenience of having a car parking space suitable for our estate car and being in such proximity to the cafes, bars, and restaurants made our short stay even more enjoyable.

Daisy cottage is just gorgeous.
It is absolute credit to the owners & very thoughtfully furnished. The loft bedroom was perfect for relaxing after a long day as was the main sitting room& the garden so very pretty to sit in weather permitting. The views from the loft bedroom particularly are absolutely stunning with clear views of the village school and the surrounding mountains. We could never tire of looking at that view which was beautiful & dramatic in every different light. Also if you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of the red squirrels nearby from the garden. The kitchen was well stocked ( but perhaps the addition of a large stock pan would be handy for larger families) It was great to see both local photos and products used within the cottage (we loved the âHerdyâ collection!) It was an easy and pretty walk into Grasmere village along the footpath by the stream & proved a perfect starting point for many walks (particularly our favourite â Alcock tarn). It is a stone's throw from Dove cottage & easily accessible by road to Ambleside and Bowness and Windermere. It was by far the best all round cottage we have stayed in & all of us ( 2 adults and 4 teenagers) loved it. Very sad though to see that prices so dramatically risen for next year with all Heart of lakes cottages ( plus £500 for this cottage the same week in 2022!!!!). This will sadly price us & many other families out of future visits in the current economic climate. Please rethink Sykes cottages!
