What our customers say about their holidays

We had a pleasant stay at the Dove Cote, I feel that this property has heaps of potential but unfortunately some aspects were not quite up to scratch.
The location of the property is excellent and we really enjoyed exploring Richmond and further into the Dales over our 3 night stay, the Farmers arms is also a must if staying here, they are super friendly and serve great food. I was surprised when we first arrived at the lack of visitors handbook or welcome pack, Iâve never stayed at a property before that doesnât have one and feel itâs very beneficial. It would have been nice to have a written Introduction / welcome from the hosts with some basic instructions and a guide to the property (for example, there was a sign asking us to switch the hot tub off the evening before our departure but no instructions on how to do it and we couldnât figure it out!). We had an issue with the boiler on our first night which left us without heating however when we contacted Dave the owner the next day he came over straight away and even got a plumber out to check things over for us. My main disappointment with the property was the level of cleanliness, the blinds in the kitchen were stained with some kind of sauce, some of the utensils and cutlery had dried up food on them meaning we needed to wash everything prior to use and some of the pots / pans are extremely old and could do with updating. With regards to upstairs, the bedding and bedsheets are really well used and worn out and need updating, the bed itself did have lots of hairs in when we arrived which is never very welcoming and the mattress feels ready for an update. Inside the chest of draws there was empty clothes packets that had obviously been left by prior guests but is slightly worrying that something so obvious hadnât been picked up / noticed during change over. The toilet upstairs is very difficult to flush meaning we opted to use the downstairs toilet instead which is in a sort of linking tunnel between the holiday cottage and the owners property. The radiator in the bathroom appears to be controlled from the owners side of the building and it was turned off for our visit which made it absolutely freezing! The hot tub was lovely and relaxing and the addition of an outside tv is a lovely touch however towards the end of our visit (night 3) the water in the hot tub was starting to get murky and there was the beginnings of a strange smell emerging, I donât think the water had been topped up with chlorine or had the chemical levels checked during our visit (perhaps investing in a slow release chlorine device would be a good idea). Overall we really did enjoy our stay and it was brilliant to explore Yorkshire, however at the price being paid I was a little let down with some of the elements. With some small alterations this place could be a little gem!

What a wonderful, cozy little cottage in a beautiful location.
The village itself is very pretty with a local shop just across the road from the cottage and a lovely local pub just down the road. The cottage is clean and well maintained with almost everything you could need - the only things we found lacking were some large glasses (we like to take large glasses of water to bed with us to drink throughout the night) and an indoor shower! It was a little awkward showering in the bathtub! Other than that, the kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need. The bedroom is cozy with a very comfortable bed and plenty of storage. We slept incredibly well during our stay. Dave came and introduced himself to us on arrival and explained a few things before reassuring us that if we needed anything he was only next door. Other than that, we were left to our own devices. There are plenty of places to explore within a reasonable driving distance. We visited Richmond (only a few miles away) and Whitby, which was well worth the drive. Although we didnât venture there on this visit, we have previously been to Barnard Castle, which is only a few miles away and definitely worth a visit if you havenât been before. We came for a weekend away for a quiet, relaxing weekend to get away from the daily grind and thatâs exactly what we got! The hot tub is great, especially with the outdoor TV to watch whilst chilling out.

We have just stayed in Dove Core for a week, the cottage is spacious comfortable and clean.
The hot tub and the tv outside is luxurious and something we made use of after a long day exploring. The cottage is in a friendly village with a shop and pub within in walking distance. The cottage is well positioned to explore the Yorkshire Sales staring with the town of Richmond. The village has wonderful walks beside the river which our dog loved, the garden is enclosed and safe for the dog which was reassuring. The owners are friendly and helpful when needed . Overall a very love!y cottage we would recommend. One note currently there is building work next door, the builder is very aware turning off his music off, it wasn't a problem for us but some people might not appreciate it.

The Dove Cote is a lovely place to stay and handy for many places to visit.
The cottage itself was clean and comfortable. There was everything needed for a good weeks holiday. The patio area and around the hot tub I cleaned myself and brushed cobwebs and dead flies etc from the skylight above the hot tub. One of the main problems for me was lack of a lawned area for the dogs. I had to take them away from the cottage for toileting and as the weather was exceptionally hot it was tiresome. My dogs wouldnât use the patio as theyâve been trained not to. After saying that I knew there was no garden but didnât expect 28 degree weather!! I would recommend the cottage but dog owners need to be mindful of itâs suitability for their dogs.

I have been meaning to leave this review for a few weeks.
me and my partner went to dove cote for 5 nights, had the absolute best time. It is PERFECT, from a well equipt kitchen, lively hot tub, lovely homey touches to being located in such a beautiful place. Our hosts were fantastic, they are very thoughtfull with that you will need and they provide! we had one question and dave was round in 5 minutes. without mentioning he picked up that we had been closing the back gate by using a broom and he came and put a hook on without mentioning- amazing really. its going to be a yearly thing for us. i left a charger and dave was kind enough to post it back and wouldn't let me pay for postage! great place, great people!
