What our customers say about their holidays

We spent a weekend at "The Stang Hideaway" in August, for a relaxing 3-night stay with my partner and our little dog.
The views were gorgeous, and the location was as peaceful as a library on a snowy day. But there were a few surprises that gave us a good laugh! First off, the wine cooler was ice-coldâunlike the fridge, which was warm enough to double as a sauna . If youâre planning to brew some coffee, don't forget to bring your own coffee pods; the same goes for dishwasher tablets as there was non available and the free washing up liquid was limited to a very small bottle (use sparingly). The "fully equipped" kitchen was a bit like a game of culinary hide-and-seek, with basic items playing hard to get. And if youâre using the breakfast bar or that âsumptuousâ sofa, be prepared to get very close to your partnerâlike, "hope-you-really-love-each-other" close, perfect if your on a romantic break! Now, letâs talk Wi-Fi. Remember the days of dial-up internet? If youâre feeling nostalgic, youâre in luckâthis Wi-Fi will take you right back to the 90s with its charmingly slow speeds which can cause the TV to frequently show the circle of death when it tries to catch up, perhaps it was intentional to create a romantic atmosphere. The outside decking is lovely, but it could use a gate to be truly dog-friendly. And don't be surprised if you step outside to find a crowd in the treehouseâitâs open to everyone on the park, so you might end up with an audience for your morning coffee or romantic sunset. All in all, it was clean and the tranquility was delightful, the stay didnât quite match up to the price given thereâs a lot of competition in the area. Hereâs hoping for some improvements in the future, but hey, we still enjoyed the peace and quiet and lovely views!

We had a lovely stay in 56 The Green.
The cottage is very comfortable and clean. The sofas in the lounge are as comfy as they look and having a real fire made it so cosy. The kitchen has everything you need and we ate at the breakfast bar rather than using the dining room. The two main bedrooms are big and the beds very comfortable and both have lovely views over the green. Having the bathroom and the downstairs shower room and toilet is a big bonus. The welcome booklet has to be one of the best Iâve seen. Lots and lots of essential information in it. Helpful info for the house and lots of suggestions of places to visit. We can highly recommend Raby Castle and High Force Falls. Richmond and Barnard Castle are great too. Being across the green from the local pub was a real bonus. I can thoroughly recommend the food there and have to say the staff and locals made us feel very welcome. I would like to thank the hosts for making their cottage available to us holidaymakers and also thank John, the caretaker, who called to let us know that the property was ready for us ahead of time. I would happily stay in the property again and would highly recommend it to others. Just a very tiny word of warning - the doors are quite low. My husband bumped his head twice on the door into the kitchen. (What is it they say? Once is a mistake, twice isâ¦

Had a lovely stay at this cottage.
First things first, the bed (one person staying) was so comfy. Always a plus when away. Two fabulous king sized bedrooms to chose from with lovely views over the green. Although the twin room was cute too. It was a plus to have two bathrooms. The parking was great. Outside the front door every night. Not always easy with North Yorkshire cottages. The whole village was very quiet. Didnât try the Bayhorse until my last night for a meal, (delicious) wished Iâd popped in sooner. Definitely book as itâs popular. Found that the Stoneygate cafe also served good food. I visited Mainsgill Farm shop twice. My advice would be to go mid morning or mid afternoon as the turning right onto the busy A66 is daunting. It is a breeze coming back. Visited loads of castles and museums. Would highly recommend Bernard Castle Castle and Bowes Museum. Also Richmondshire Museum too. The cottage has Amazon Prime and Netflix so I managed to get through all episodes of Clarksons Farm (fantastic show) and Bridgerton, lol. Would recommend a stay, you will not be disappointed. A beautiful part of the UK.

March 2025 As a group of 10, we hired the whole Sunday School Spa and I have to say, it was fantastic. The location in the centre of Richmond is perfect and the parking is a breeze and free of charge! Alternatively there is a huge car park at the end of the green, with a nominal charge of course. 5 minute walk up the hill into the main square with loads of restaurants, pubs, shops and places for food shopping. The own Emma met us on arrival and showed us around, making sure we knew how everything worked. She was very lovely and answered any questions we had. She noted that if we had any issues, she was just a call away as she lived close by. The full property is huge, with 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, 2 lounges, big dining area, outdoor hot tub, sauna and cold plunge. It's immaculately presented, with super comfy sofas, there's a wood burning fire in the front room for cozy night in. Multiple TV's with satellite connection and great wi-fi. We really enjoyed staying there and will come back again for sure.

A beautiful cottage in a beautiful picturesque village, served with an excellent pub- great food, beer & friendly service. Sadly they only serve food Thursday Friday Saturdays & Sunday lunch- but when they do - WOW! The cottage has a great modern kitchen diner, a cosy living room with modern log burner. Both double bedrooms are clean, spacious & served with an adequate shower room fed by a combi boiler. The garden is a nice sun soaked spot to sit in & is secure for any dogs, unless yours will jump a 3ft wall! This is a great base located just a few minutes walk to the pub & huge village green with a babbling stream to the side, the village easily accessed just a short drive from the A66. Richmond being a short 10 minute drive, Barnard castle around 20 minutes & Raby castle about the same. There are some nice walks for you to explore with or without a dog in the village & the nearby towns/villages. Definitely recommend this cottage & location.
