  The property is in a lovely area, ideal for bird watching or seeing the many historical sites on Anglesey, however the location is spoilt by being right next to a pub and a nearby property with howling dogs, making it very noisy at times.

  Inside there is plenty of space and most things that you would need during your stay, augmented by a welcome basket of useful goodies. Our main issue was with the bath on the top floor. This is a stand-out feature when compared to other properties and one of reasons we picked this property. Unfortunately when my wife tried to use the bath it moved as she tried to get in, so she tried to get out immediately and it moved again, almost causing her to slip and fall. As the bath moved it also caused a leak, which we moped up quickly with a towel. On inspection it was obvious that the bath is not fasted to the floor and can be moved easily with one hand. This is dangerous and it was only luck that she didn’t badly hurt herself. The bath should be properly secured, or if this is the way it is supposed to be, then a warning sign should be provided to prevent further incidents. We informed Sykes Cottages about this and somebody came to the property while we were out, but they didn’t secure the bath or provide any further information, so the bath was not usable during our stay. Furthermore: - The advertisement states the property has Netflix, which it does, but although it was possible to log into the guest account, whenever we selected a programme to watch, it would exit from Netflix and go back to the TV, so it was unusable. - The DVD player is not connected to the TV, so couldn’t be used and the batteries in the remote seemed to have corroded. - The sofa is not very comfortable as the springs seem to have gone saggy Overall, I wouldn’t recommend the property to friends, and do not think it was good value given the above problems.   Excellent place for exploring North Wales.

  The front and rear of the property requires major maintenance, a good clean up, front bench starting to rot. The gated entrance if of no use so there is a potential safety hazard if you have children or pets. The metal gate looks as though it hasn't been maintained for 10 years, it’s rotten and hanging of its hinges There is NO rear garden, just some shingle and no view and you do not get any sun as it's against a cliff. The bathroom door is a sliding door and has clearly been off the runners for a very long time, the floor has a groove worn in it due to it dragging so not privacy in the bathroom. This is a major safety hazard which could lead to the door falling off. In previous reviews this has been highlighted but not addressed, the shower control has a fixing screw missing so the handle comes off in your hand or falls on the bath and this looks a though it has been missing for a long time, just basic maintenance needed. Three out of four lamps in the rear of the property needed replacement, just the basic checks any landlords would hopefully carry out when getting ready for next client. Key lock at the rear of the property is old and dirty, just needs a replacement and you would struggle to use it in the dark, a simple security lamp would suffice. Handle on fridge kept coming off, as reported by previous guests, again just basic maintenance needed. The only 'starter pack' for the wood burning fire was a few firelighters, no wood or matches so bring your own! Nice location, could be a 5-star property but the owner needs to get a grip with maintenance and description.

  A lot of health and safety issues and environmental issues e.

  G. piles of rubbish including old radiators , old fireplace, plasterboard and plaster , and lots of bags of rubbish with a dank and musty smell outside house blocking footway from car park to cottages . there was a mouse in the rubbish on one occasion. car park unlit in dark as was footway from car park to cottages causing safety issue especially with so much rubbish on footway. there is disused swimming pool with foul water in it and not securely fenced off causing health and safety issues.The playground facilities were in a bad state of repair with visible signs of rot. the indoors games facilities in a state of neglect and the whole area had very uneven ground. . there was cabling coming from our sitting room going across pathway causing trip hazard .the bath in cottage showed distinct signs of enamel coming away and i would not have liked to sit in it and risk getting my bottom scratched It really was a very depressing place to stay everything in cottage was very dated and tired . we had come up for a family party on Saturday and couldn't wait to leave early the following day .workmen came and worked in cottage whilst we were staying . we are taking the health and safety and environmental risks further as in all the thirty years we have been with Sykes we have never seen anything like it. we have taken lots of photos to prove our case.

  We never actually got to stay in the cottage we booked as there was a problem with the boiler.

  We were asked if we could stay in a first floor apartment in the same complex which was the Woodman and we agreed. It was difficult to find with the postcode given but the owner was very helpful in guiding us to the cottage even though it was late in the evening. Although this was a nice apartment in hindsight the stairs were too steep for my friend who did struggle to get up them and there was only one bathroom with a bath that had the shower in it as well but my friend couldn’t manage to climb over the edge of the bath to actually use it , a grab rail would have been useful in bath as it was a bit difficult, to get in and out, the other issue in the bathroom was that there wasn’t any toilet paper so thankfully the petrol garage along the way was open but I would have expected this to have been provided. The apartment overall was good and for a fully mobile family or couple it would have been ideal as it’s great location , well laid out, good equipped kitchen and easy parking but it wasn’t suitable for someone with mobility issues so we left a day earlier which was a shame.

  We loved our stay at Y Cartws.

  The cottages have all been converted from farm outbuildings and Y Cartws was the feed storage and cart house. The conversions are to a high standard with some beautiful woodwork and old beams. The scenery is lovely with the hills ascending just behind you. Great walks from your front door. The beds are brand new and so comfortable with lovely clean white bed linen. It was pretty cold when we were there but the heating was really good ... and we could control it ourselves. The log burner is an added bonus. There are stair gates on both the bottom and top of the stairs which is handy for kids and dogs. WiFi worked great. Washing machine AND tumble drier, very important in Wales. Eirlys, the owner, took over the farm in May 2023 & she is giving the cottages a real makeover. She is lovely and friendly. Her daughter Gwen is very sweet and she played with my 9 year old son and took him to see all the animals which he loved. I would definitely recommend staying here. Rachel, Judy & Patrick (Midlands)
