What our customers say about their holidays
Sallie - Verified booking
We reported several issues during our stay; 1: Hall lighting - non existent.
Reported Monday 19th June - resolved Friday 21st June with electrician in attendance. 2: Main bathroom lighting - only 1 of 2 inadequate wall lights working - bulb was completely missing and had never been replaced leaving the room incredibly dark given the dark wooden slat blind (required to be down at all times due to the property to the rear). With a shower over the bath and no handles or non slip bath mat it didn't feel very safe. We checked the understairs cupboard but no bulb there to fit. Reported on Monday 19th June - never resolved during our entire stay. 3: The downstairs shower wasn't getting warm at all and the shower head was broken. Shower curtain sits too high above the tray so the moment the shower was switched on the entire floor was soaking wet. Reported 19th June - plumber arrived Wednesday 26th and was never resolved. 4: Major issue with flies from the middle weekend - Saturday 24th June onwards. They appeared to be coming from inside the very rotten sash windows which was really unpleasant with 30-40 emerging each time approx 3 times a day for the rest of our stay! Reported and never resolved. This house requires an awful lot of maintenance and the garden is incredibly overgrown. The beds creak constantly. The floorboards either side of the bath are rotting. The kitchen equipment is so basic without so much as a serving spoon. The fact that the washing machine is in an incredibly musty outhouse should be mentioned in the details to prospective customers. The information folder for the house was hidden inside the meter cupboard above the breakfast bar and should be on full view for arriving guests. Why were you not aware of the issues we raise as surely they should have been reported back by cleaners during the turnaround between guests and should have been rectified? We have asked for a cost adjustment for our holiday and I understand that this has been passed to the relevant team and I look forward to hearing from you.

The house is charming and comfortably furnished.
The âshort walkâ to the house is quite a bit longer and steeper than expected, but it is a historic house in a very historic town. And the surfaces were quite clean. However, some things were less charming. Getting the upstairs toilet to flush reliably requires keeping the tank lid off so that it would fill enough to empty. It took us the first day to find that solution and it was a nuisance even once we solved the problem. The kettle in the kitchen is unusable. Someone tried to cook in it at some point, and the inside is foul. There are no cutting boards, which complicated cooking and even cutting fruit for snacks. The bed in the main bedroom was too firm for us. The washing machine is in an outdoor shed, which was an inconvenience as it was raining during much of our visit. Lastly, working with Sykes was very difficult and unpleasant. There were no contact numbers in our email, so we couldnât call anyone when we reached the house and couldnât figure out how to get in. There was a phone number for the local maintenance team inside the house, but we couldnât get in to get it. That information should have been included in the very long email that Sykes sent us.

The home was part of a converted farm complex of cottages and theyâre really beautiful.
The Kingfisher barn is HUGE and had so much room for our family to spread out and relax. There was an issue with heaters the owner notified us of right away and had resolved early on. The pool table was a big hit with my boys and husband (even me!) and was nice to have two tables (we brought a jigsaw!) - I wish there had been a way to use the deck more it was giant and lovely - just a little chilly. Bedrooms huge - bathrooms clean. Pet friendly too. The location is central to the peninsula so we did say trips to many different places around Cornwall. All within an hour hour & a half drive. As for household items there were a few basics missing when we arrived but we picked them up easily enough. I would not recommend getting a grocery delivery as the post code does NOT work on sat navs. The sat nav sends you down a different road that leads to back of another (?) farm with no way to get through. There are -also major roadworks being done nearby so would recommend anyone going soon (Fall 2020) to look into them and map out your routes. We already want to go back. It was a huge hit with my whole family. Thank you!

We arrived at the property to find the Key Safe open and the Keys in full view.
First impressions were good on entering the property, moving on to the terrace there was an issue with the gate where it had dropped and was stiff to close and unable to latch without physically lifting the gate, something I could do but not something my pregnant daughter could do. Moving upstairs we expected to find a single and bunk beds in the family room but weâre greeted by 3 single beds, hence no space to put the Travel cot so we had to dismantle one bed to generate enough space for it. Into the upstairs bathroom and the Toilet was not secured to the floor and moved every time you sat on it. Property was very dusty and obviously had not been cleaned thoroughly, and it was only when we were checking prior to leaving that we discovered used tissues and sweet papers and thick dust under the bed in the downstairs en-suite bedroom. In the present climate cleaning is paramount and this was simply not good enough. All said the property is in a good location and we had a good holiday and I did phone the owner on my return home to high light the issues that we found.

This was a return visit to kingfisher because we loved it on our first visit, and I have to say we were very disappointed.
The first thing we saw was a bowl underneath the pool table and a note in the table explaining a leaky roof hence the bowl. We also understand that there would be cobwebs in the roof as it is a barn but there were big cobwebs on the windows. There was black tape over the light switch by the back door and tape on the kitchen sink. We also accept that due to it being on a farm there would be flies, but in the upstairs bathroom there were quite a few dead ones in the windowsill. We also found a glass under one of the single beds along with dust bunnies. My dogâs ball had rolled behind the corner cupboard this ment we had to get behind it and the back was full of dead flies, meaning that the house had not been cleaned properly. Also the last time we arrived, we were aware that we only had a starter pack of wood for the burner and we would have to buy more, but we had one log and that was it. This house is a beautiful house and we loved it the first time around, but this time we were very disappointed.
