What our customers say about their holidays

Palm Lodge is in a lovely location and has the potential to be really something.
However, the lodge has now reached the stage of needing some TLC and renovation. It was very damp even when using the dehumidifier provided. The bedroom and bathroom doors were sticking and unable to close properly. Several of the windows were difficult to open and close due to the affects of the skin of the structure being damp. Even our clothes in the bedroom drawers and wardrobe were feeling damp after a couple of days. There was mildew on the shower head and in the grooves of the shower doors and walls. The bathroom is in desperate need of a regular size sink with proper running hot and cold water (no timer tap for cold / no small side boiler for hot - this gave lukewarm water at best and sometimes there was no pressure and nothing came out - not good when you're wanting to wash your hands after having been to the toilet particularly) Fridge needs looking at - didn't feel like it was holding the temperature and we lost freshly bought food and milk within a couple of days. Lounge area ceiling is in need of repair - looked like it had had a previous leak and with the rain we had we were constantly worried that this was going to happen again with a very obvious visible split in the ceiling. Unfortunately we came away feeling very disappointed and that we'd paid way too much.

The property is well located for Sennen Cove, but the name âsea the viewâ is a bit misleading as it doesnât really have sea views.
The rooms are very nice quality and design and a lot of thought has gone into it. The photos on the listing showed comfy outdoor furniture but this had been replaced with less lounge furniture (which is obviously easier for them to maintain). So there was nowhere we could all sit and lounge outside (the comfy corner sofa chairs were not there, the swing chairs had been taken down etc). So it wasnât quite as expected. The bed linen was lovely quality but the pillows were awful - I get this is very personal but I had to go out and buy some as they were that poor and the main bed had a super firm mattress. We had problems with the main patio door not working which meant there was a gap when they were closed and as it is quite an exposed garden the draft and noise of the wind was quite annoying. In addition we had a day of driving rain which lead to a large leak flooding the floor under the picture window. Eating in all the basics crockery was there but for example there was no salad bowl or serving plates, so if you were wanting to do a nice meal in it was a bit basic. The addition of an electric charger was very helpful. It was lovely but overall for the high price I donât think it quite delivered.

We have stayed in seven cottages marketed by Sykes in recent years and we think Walter has been the best.
It was an attractive, well-decorated building in an interesting part of Newlyn, accessed from a narrow lane (but with car park close by) and was well-equipped. The owners had generously provided us with some food and sufficient supplies of consumables such as washing up liquid, hand washing liquid, and toilet paper. The information pack was interesting, particularly on the history of the house â the current owners are the fifth generation of the family to own it. The cottage is close to the Coastal Path which passes the end of Church Street. We recommend the Hepworth Museum in St Ives, Trewidden Gardens, St Michaelâs Mount, the Newlyn Village trail and the Newlyn Filmhouse. There are good local bus services including the Mousehole bus and the Coaster bus â those provide access to the Coastal Path. We did several sections using the bus links. There is a well-equipped Co-op a short walk away, open till late. The only downside of our holiday was mud â the Coastal path between Newlyn and Lamorna had some very muddy stretches because of all the rain.

Stunning, comfortable cottage.
Loved it. So well-equipped and delightfully furnished and decorated. Wanted for nothing. Location great, we could walk to Newlyn town centre, supermarkets, pubs, Penzance and Mouseholes and there was a bus stop at the bottom of the hill. Walter is halfway up an incline but as we are very fit seniors, it was not a problem for us but for those with limited mobility, it could be. The only other downside was parking. There is a public carpark about 200 metres away and we bought a weekly parking permit. But if we went out in the car, we had to time our arrival home very carefully otherwise, we would not get a parking space. It was full all day and after 4.00 pm when it was free parking, it was almost impossible to get an overnight parking bay. A designated parking bay for the cottage would be helpful. Otherwise, our stay at Walter was amazing and we would definitely recommend to others and would stay there again if ever we come back to UK again. Many thanks for sharing your lovely cottage with us. From the minute we stepped through the door to the Walter it felt like home.
Everything you could possibly need was provided, and more! From a welcome pack with fresh bread and milk, to tea, coffee and hot chocolate and dog treats, not to mention the delicious cakes! If, like us, you had a dog with you. You can tell this has been well thought of. Dog bowls and a mat are provided, as well as doggy towels and throws etc. Easy to clean floorâs throughout downstairs and then a gate on the bottom of the stairs to stop your four legged friend roaming upstairs. The whole place was spotless and you could tell it was really cared for. The attention to detail was amazing, everything matching and everything just felt in the right place. Although there is no parking at the property, we parked in the small local car park which was about 100m from the cottage and paid £15 for the week. We were coming and going all the time and never struggled to find a place. Newlyn itself was lovely. We ate a few times at the Fishermanâs Arms, which we can highly recommend and the ice cream from S Jelberts was amazing.
