What our customers say about their holidays

We adored this beautiful, peaceful cottage.
The garden is so pretty- we loved sitting out in the evening over-looking it, drink in hand; when it rained we sat by the cozy fire (as much wood as you want provided at no extra cost). The cottage had all that we needed for a very comfortable week's stay. There was a very thoughtful gift of a jar of local honey and hand-made chocolates waiting for us when we arrived. The village is quaint and tranquil. We often enjoyed a walk out in the evening either around the village or to the local pub; in the day there are many beautiful walks- we particularly enjoyed walking to the watercress fields (and buying freshly picked watercress). The cottage is very conveniently located for many excursions- a week was not enough! On hot days we made our way to the stunning coastal villages which are only about 40 minutes away or at other times we spent our days walking in wildflower meadows or next to glorious, clear rivers by pubs and through villages. Salisbury is also a beautiful place to visit and a day at Stonehenge is a must! We are certain this would be a beautiful place to stay at any time of the year- so we will be back. We may even book the much bigger cottage next door (or both) and bring the whole family!!

Absolutely lovely cottage and an excellent host, but parking situation in the village made experience very stressful.
We were unlucky to arrive during very heavy rain and the entire street was parked up to the brim with "road closed" signs on one end. Neighbours opposite were very unhappy with us trying to park up for a bit near the house to unload the car, so we had to carry a lot of our luggage under the pouring rain from the further end of the village. (There is a tight parking space near the house which is now considered unsuitable, so you can't use it). This parking situation continued throughout our stay. Then as a cherry on top we parked for under 10 minutes in an available space by a house further down the road, only to come back to angry neighbours and a bus backing away as it wasn't able to pass. It was a proper parking spot and a big Range Rover passed us easily, but we just weren't aware of the bus. As absolutely stunning as this cottage is, it's not suitable for someone who wants to come by car of medium to big size unless you're ready to deal with a village full of unhappy residents.

Guest's Review On TripAdvisor - Verified booking
We stayed in Kings Cottage North whilst waiting for our new house we were buying, to be completed.
The cottage is set in delightful grounds which are beautifully maintained. The cottage itself is fairly small but very well presented and equipped. It has been immaculately renovated and sits amidst stunning countryside in the quiet village of Broad Chalke. It is in walking distance of the local pub, the Queens Head, and also the local and thriving local community run shop. It is only nine miles from Salisbury centre but has access to wonderful cycling and walking country. It is also on a local bus route between Shaftesbury and Salisbury. Next door is King's Cottage South which is much larger with four bedrooms so together the two cottages would make a wonderful destination for a large group weekend away, or a family celebration. Peace and quiet, with lots to do and see, but a hideaway if gentle relaxation is your objective.

We loved Kings Cottage North, from first arrival to our departure we enjoyed staying there very much as did our dog Skye who didn't want to leave.
It quickly became our home from home, it's in a perfect setting and was a prefect location for our trips to surrounding areas, always a pleasure to return to it after a long day out sightseeing. The Cottage has a great feel to it, the village is quiet and the locals are friendly, there was much activity around the Church and the Community Centre, the pub and Chalke Village Stores, during our stay there was a wedding of an African Royal Family, you don't get that every day. Kings Cottage north may be small but it holds you, the facilities are first class, though the Sykes site does not make it clear what facilities are provided within the Cottage. Loved it, our stay there was over all too quickly, it's somewhere that we would definitely have no hesitation in returning to.

Parking difficult for a large car.
Had to park at the top of the road up the hill. Unfortunately caused hundreds of pounds damage to our car hitting the stone post when we arrived. Not a great start. The staircase was difficult for older people , winding steep and narrow. The lighting in the living room was very stark and dark. The decor was lovely and quirky. Lots of great touches such as the cakes and wine on arrival. A great standard of pots and pans, indeed everything in the kitchen was first class. Many thoughtful extras from soaps to a picnic basket. Comfy bed and plenty of hot water.
