What our customers say about their holidays

Heron Lodge is superb.
The lodge is modern, comfortable and beautifully presented - a real credit to the owners. Its about a 10 minute drive from Spilsby and sits in open countryside. The lodge itself is about 150m away from the road down a gravel driveway. The open plan layout works well and the lodge felt very spacious although the single bedroom lacks much hanging space and could maybe benefit from some blackout curtains unless you appreciate early starts. The lodge is very well equipped and the owners have clearly put a lot of thought into what guests might need, especially the little 'extra' things such as a picnic basket and binoculars to borrow, spare batteries for the TV remote, notepaper, magnifying glass, plenty of information about the area and its attractions as well as a good selection of books, magazines, DVDs and games for any wet days. It just creates a feeling that everything you might need for a self-catering break is there, including all the things you have forgotten. There was also tea, coffee, milk and cake to greet us with, much appreciated. The real attraction are the 20+ acres of grounds the Lodge sits in and in which guests are able to wander along the mown paths maintained by the owner. The grounds are a little steep in places (but no problem for an 84 year old) and consist of woodland, meadow and four small lakes. A stroll through these grounds observing the wildlife (deer, rabbit, partridge, pheasant, owls and of course Heron amongst others) is a great way to end a Spring day. All in all, can't recommend Heron Lodge highly enough and hope to return one day. Many thanks to the owners for helping to provide a very memorable break

Issues when we arrived, no water, owners had not turned it on, and also no wi-fi!
Cleanliness was not a word to associate with this property, if you like musty; OAP vibe this is it! Spoke with owner who shared how to switch cold water on, although forgot about hot water (thank the Lord for the electric shower) as it was boil the kettle to wash up, and no black-out curtains in very small bedroom, which is a must with street light only 250 yards away. Owner brought wi-fi next day but that too was very poor, OK for checking e-mails but no Netflix or on demand with the shared use across site and this was not in high season. I think the owner needs to know that the hot water switch seems to work the shower and the hot water, this needs switching on at the boiler, but it was too later for our stay, and is there not a responsibility by the owner/letting agents to ensure that the hot water is checked (Legionnaires)? The electric heater in the main bedroom did not work and there was no facility to dry towels after a shower, the bathroom was filthy. Everything needed washing on return home! If it hadn't taken 8 hours to drive to this place, I would have demanded alternative accommodation, which is difficult with a fur baby in tow. Sykes should have paid us for staying at this barely 1* chalet, although the ants living in the kitchen seemed to like their accommodation. We will seriously review staying at a Sykes property again after this!! Belive me, this is a mild review!! NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER!! But the owner had been busy that week!!!!

Heron Lodge is in a secluded spot where only the occupants and the owners have access to the lakes and the woodland.
There is a wide, gently sloping grassed area at the front of the lodge where my teenage boys loved playing foorball and cricket. We had access to fish in the closest lake which pleased my 15 year old son. In the house, there is a good selection of outdoor games equipment in the boot room,, and a good selection of board games, books, and DVDs. The lodge is immaculate, in both cleanliness and decor. It is light and spacious, and the kitchen is very well equipped. The owners have provided plenty of good information about the area and although the property feels secluded, it is in close proximity to the small market town of Spilsby. Milk, sugar, teabags and coffee, plus a Plum Loaf, were thoughtfully provided on our arrival. The owners Andy and Denise were very approachable and friendly. I don't have any critical comments to make at all - other than keep your eyes peeled for the entrance, which is off quite a busy, speedy B-Road - there are a few properties with a similar address and the entrance to the gravel drive is upon you very quickly. Perhaps maybe a metal heron at the top of the drive?

Overall we had a lovely stay.
We were a little surprised when we we arrived as the photos looked like the property was detached. Sadly, the hot tub was not working properly, only 1 jet was working which was incredibly powerful and actually bruised my friend's back. I think someone else had mentioned this on a previous review. It was one of the main reasons why we booked Swandown. Downstairs was a little tired, flaky paint on ceilings etc in the bathrooms and in one bathroom the water in the bath didn't drain away so that wasn't very nice. There was a couple of dirty plates and the grill pan needed to be washed before we used it. The TV sound quality wasn't great. Other than that, we had a lovely time. It is super comfortable, lovely location, great views, very helpful staff. Lovely little honesty shops and great range of DVDs and games. We used the swimming pool on site and the facilities at the hotel - which were very tired.

My husband and I spent a week at Heron Lodge at the beginning of October 2021.
The property was perfect for us in every way. Beautifully situated away from the road, along a long gravel drive, very quiet and private, with lovely views over the grounds. Every effort to ensure our comfort had been considered with great attention to detail. Despite being spacious and open- plan it was very warm and cosy. It was extremely well-equipped and very clean, with all necessary Covid sanitation precautions taken. We used the Lodge mainly as a base for walking in the area to gain access to the start of our daily countryside and coastal walks without having to drive too far. Denise and Andy, the owners who lived on site further up the drive, were lovely - very helpful yet considerate of our privacy. We very much appreciated their welcome pack containing tea, coffee, milk and plum bread loaf. The fact that we plan to return in the future says it all. In a word ... superb!
