What our customers say about their holidays

On arrival the front of the property did not live up to the picture provide.
On entry things improved but the fire starter kit was non exiting 4 logs half a fire lighter and some paper this would not of lit a fire so the first thing we had to do was drive down to the local garage for logs kindling and coal though we would of done this the next day after travelling it was the last thing we wanted to do. The larger sofa in the lounge was very uncomfortable and really needs replacing the smaller sofa was fine. However, we used the main bedroom and the mattress on this bed has collapse and was very uncomfortable and we left early as we both had bad backs from it. The main bathroom was fine but the shower curtain was yellow at the bottom so need replaced or a good bleaching as it was my husband struggled with the height he is 6â 1â so we then had to revert to using the the en-suite shower in the other bedroom, did feel quilty using 2 bathrooms but had no choice. The kitchen had everything you would need but again is very very tired looking. Saying that the cottage has a lovely cosy feel and with a little upgrading could be lovely.

We had a wonderful stay at Akeld Cottage, our first visit but certainly will return when possible.
The cottage is warm and welcoming, very homely and comfortable. More like staying in a home than a holiday let. Rooms are very well equipped, and many thoughtful touches added by the owners to make for an enjoyable and comfortable stay. Any small problem was dealt with immediately by the very friendly and helpful owners. The only slight discomfort we experienced was the hardness of the two double mattresses, but many people prefer firm beds, so thatâs just an observation, not a complaint. The setting is gorgeous with stunning countryside all around, views from the windows and gardens are inspirational, especially as Iâm an artist. Staying there in autumn was perfect for me with all the beautiful colours of nature, the wildlife and many varieties of birds around the cottage and the whole area. Would return to this cottage without question. Canât recommend highly enough.

Very conveniently situated for exploring the local area - with the coast, Northumberland's castles and the Cheviots. Several restaurants or pubs for eating, and the Coop was only a few steps away. It was worrying that I had to chase the Host and Stay for the code for the key safe - the idea that people using the property would be happy to not receive the code until 6 hours before arrival is stupid. There could be better instructions on using the room thermostat. On arrival, it showed the name of the WiFi modem. somehow, I got it to display temperatures, and then it was easy to adjust. We couldn't find a remote for the TV, or again instructions on how to use the system. The bathroom was excellently newly refitted, but the basin plug needed an "O ring" to stop the water draing away. The Kitchen was also newly refitted and good - thank you.

The cottage was beautiful however, due to a power cut 2 hours into our holiday we were without any electric, heating or phone connections for the whole 3 days!
!!! We have stayed at this property before, so we are aware that the owner only lives 3-4 minutes away, however they never bothered to check if we were ok. The whole of the village was without power, so they would have been aware. There was no torch or candles left and no wood for the log burner, which would have been the only form of heat we had, the temperature got down to minus 3. All of the food we had taken went off, due to having no electricity, so that was £75 worth of food gone!!! All we had was bread but nothing to put on it, as the butter had gone off!!! We were unable to call the people who had dropped us off to come and collect us, so we had no option but to stay until we were picked up 3 days later. All in all, it was an absolute disgrace and no offer of any kind of recompense!!!

There were 7 adults in the party, 3 couples plus one single person and a husky.
We found the Cheviot Hills and Wooler to be an excellent location for our different interests. We are walkers, birders, historians and shoppers and all found something to suit our tastes. The house was clean, warm, comfortable and plenty large enough with four good size bedrooms downstairs and 4 bathrooms ( 2 en suite). The kitchen was well equipped and the lounge and dining room easily large enough for all of us. It was a pleasure to sit out on the decking, and in the hot tub, with views over the town and of the surrounding hills. The town has a range of shops and food establishments that will cater for most needs. There was so much for us to see and do in the area. We would be happy to go back for another holiday there and do the things we didnât have time for on this holiday.
