What our customers say about their holidays

Lovely little cottage in Little Langdale.
For the price it was good value and we were appreciative because we had booked it last minute. The location is good for exploring the local walks and hills such as Lingmoor. It also was very well located for some great mountain bike routes that I am familiar with. Well equipped kitchen. Beds were very comfy. Useful bike store which just about squeezed two mountain bikes. A few small points that could easily be fixed: I would ask that the owners get a new TV. The TV appears to be over 10 years old and is a bit small and with poor sound quality. In my view there is no excuse for this at all. Please also get more crockery. There is a full size dishwasher so it could easily fit 3 meals worth. Having only 6 plates and limited cutlery means the dishwasher needs to go on after every meal. At one point we had a few friends pop round but there was not even one plate each. I got the feeling that the owners didn't really want people in their cottage as there were about 20 little notes all round the cottage, giving various instructions. I can see the merit for some but others like telling you how to open a blind, reminding you to close the shower door, or why the freezer might rattle, were a bit unnecessary. Two little points which the owners perhaps can't easily fix is that there is no parking and it can be very difficult to park near the cottage during the day. Early morning and after about 5pm it is fine. Unlikely to be a reality but a residents parking system with a pass to put in the window would solve this. The walls feel rather thin so sound does carry around the cottage. WiFi is not great for obv reasons, but does the basics and just about powered Netflix. No mobile signal at all in the area.

We have just returned from staying at priory lodge for 7 nights, 6 of us including grandparents, 2 teenage girls and a 1yr old cockapoo .
The location was ideal and the private pathway and jetty was fantastic for our dog walks and the girls loved swimming in the lake, although the path is very steep back upto the cottage so our older guests only did it the once. I was very, very disappointed that the description did not mention that the garden/patio area was located at the front of the property and it was wrongly described as enclosed. There were several sections which our dog could have easily got through and the roads outside are unbelievably busy all day/ evening so unfortunately we could not sit outside and relax atall without her on a lead, you cannot even see the garden from the patio area so this was a massive issue for us. She did manage to push a side gate open and run through it, which we now know has a faulty latch on the other side, how we managed to grab her before running into the road I will never know. So anytime we were back at the cottage was spent inside unfortunately. The cottage itself was comfortable, the walls could have done with a lick of paint here and there but overall was ok. We would not stay again purely because of the garden situation which is a shame because all the other boxes were ticked.

I have attempted twice to contact owner prior to giving feedback to Sykes.
On departure day we searched around to look for owner to inform him of the issues we were concerned about and we also left a letter on the table in Muncaster View. I have today sent a text but to no avail. The following issues were of concern to us: 1. The shower tray did not drain (first bedroom opposite front door) 2. Mixer tap in kitchen area was coming away from its base and we were worried that it might come away altogether and cause flooding 3. Only 1 window could be opened in the property. All the others were sealed shut. 4. The telly was far too small for the size of room and far too high on the wall. We were unable to view the screen properly and could not read the subtitles as the screen was so high up. 5. The freezer compartment of the fridge was dirty. 6. The open fire despite having lots of coal and kindling didnât have any paper to light it. 7. Toilet seat in second bedroom was very loose and could have caused injury. We both feel that the amount of money paid for 3 nights for a cottage with so many problems was very overpriced.

A beautifully furnished cottage. It’s a great base for exploring some stunning parts of the Lake District- remoteness of location did mean we had to drive to be able to go for a walk as few pavements and amenities nearby (we had a baby and dogs). Owner was incredibly helpful and approachable, did all he could to ensure a good stay. We found the heating difficult to figure out but did make use of the log burning fire in the lounge. Kitchen was well equipped and cottage generally very comfortable. Though it says designated parking- we did have some trouble with this as neighbours parked outside the front of the cottage each day. There are places to park nearby, so wasn’t a huge issue. Garden is enclosed and pretty, not huge for dogs but a nice place to sit out. Overall, would recommend as a comfortable and beautifully furnished base in the countryside.

House was lovely and warm downstairs.
Kitchen well stocked (although we had to buy a fish slice and a couple of the glasses were cracked). Bedrooms were cosy, beds were clean and towels were soft. Parking area was ample and not difficult to access. Property is let down by the cleaning and maintenance. There was a bag of open rubbish in the parking area when we arrived and some of it had blown into the garden. There were no instructions about rubbish disposal and recycling procedures. Some parts of the house could be better cleaned. The dining table has grooves in it where food particles have collected. Could do with a good clean. Some of the doors and skirting boards could do with a lick of paint (especially the en suite door). Radiator in main bedroom didn't work, shower was spraying water all over the floor and toilet rollholder was broken. All things which could be easily fixed.
