What our customers say about their holidays
David - Verified booking
Reading the description, and seeing the pictures this would be a beautiful and perfect place, However.
... This is a house riddled with damp! Every external wall had signs of mould. In most cases this appears to have been cleaned up however in the small bedroom it had been ignored. When we first saw the mould on the wall alongside the bed, my wife wiped with her fingers and we both choked on the spores as they were disturbed. In the corners behind the bed the walls were black as was the upper corner around and behind the picture. With my grandchildren arriving in a few hours we decided to clean off the mould from the walls and move the bed away from the external wall. It took about 30 minutes to rid the room of the black spores but the house should never have been let out in this condition. There is nowhere on this review to show pictures but disgusting and unhealthy describe this adequately. In our pre-arrival brief, we were advised that "it is an old house" and " could get damp" therefore we were requested and (dutifully complied) to, run the fans after shower and open bedroom windows daily. This is probably the owners way of getting around this but showering and sleeping, is not the cause of the damp in this house. The underfloor heating is set on all day which compensated for this a bit and we left all the room doors open during our stay to allow air to circulate throughout the house. In the front double with the west facing side wall there were patches of what looked like slime on the wall. I didn't clean this off as it appeared to be bubbling the paint and was afraid that trying to remove this would take the paint off the wall. Mould on solid surfaces such as window frames can be easily removed but not sure if the cleaner even considers this, particularly as it looks like they never get cleaned. The shower has been removed from the main bathroom and this was not highlighted either by the owner or Sykes. With only one shower in a 4 bedroomed house to accommodate 7 guests there is quite a challenge in the morning with everyone queuing to use the only shower in the master bedroom en-suite. Had we known this, we would never have booked this house for our needs with 4 adults and 2 teenagers. In places, some aspects of the house cleaning is questionable. The marks and soiling in the microwave, plates in the cupboard , tea coffee & sugar canisters, and the greasy surface of the cooker hood made us question how much time is spent on preparation for guests. I'm 6'2" and the thick dust on the top of the washer in the downstairs closet caught my eye every time I went in there, not to mention the dead flies on the window cill. The brewery has been closed since last year and everything around is a mess with empty beer barrells strewn all over the place. The outside and back of the house area is a tip. There is a half full drum of CIP100 which is a very corrosive chemical sitting in front of the brewery. That needs to be disposed of by a specialist chemical disposal company and at least stored securely until then. If I apply the blinkers and ignore the above, this house is in a very peaceful location, has great interior space and an owner with impeccable taste for furnishings and interior design . The WiFi is great and is the only way to use your tech. If you want to get away from the world, there is no mobile signal from either EE, O2 or Vodafone at the house. It is with the blinkers removed that we feel compelled to say we could not recommend Hollins due to the damp and mould, only having one shower, the attention to preparation cleaning, and the untidy area around the brewery.

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Brant View.
The cottage really is like a home from home, we felt relaxed as soon as we first walked through the door. We were holidaying as a family of 5, the youngest being 8 and the cottage was perfect. The children loved being met most mornings by the Turkey sitting on the door step, or the very friendly dogs waiting for a play in the garden. The owners, who are very attentive but not intrusive could not have been more helpful, even taking in my washing when we were out and it began to rain. We holidayed during a hot, sunny and mainly dry spell and so did not need any heating on, there was however instant and plentiful hot water when ever we needed it. The windows in the bedrooms have wooden shutters which we all liked and we slept with the windows open and the shutters closed most nights. We went for a walk up the nearby Cautley Spout, Englands highest waterfall above ground and continued to walk on the fells when we'd reached the top. The Lakes are not far from the house and we had a swim in Wast water, England's deepest Lake. Closer to Cautley, Sedbergh is just a short drive away and a lovely village, lots of walks and playing in the rivers, it also has a great older style sweet shop....lots of jars of sweets on the shelves which the children loved. We had a wonderful and peaceful holiday at Brant View coming home feeling refreshed and rested.(The children did not want to leave, one cried....a true mark of a great cottage and holiday)

Lovely cottage and in the perfect rural setting.
Extremely quiet with bursts of lovely birdsong and the occasional bleating of lambs. Amazing views from all windows, my favourite was the small one in the lounge which has ivy around it. Sitting there after a sightseeing excursion was extremely tranquil. The garden is lovely and we were lucky with some sunny days to spend two afternoons in it. The newer garden bench is deceivingly comfortable! The kitchen is full of light from the large windows and so nice to cook and eat in there. The cottage was clean, comfortable and warm. We didnât need to use the log burner at all. Lovely little welcome pack of biscuits and wine when we arrived. There was only a teaspoonful of sugar in the sugar canister when we arrived but there is a large local Spar just out of Sedbergh. The tumble dryer is in the bike store outside, the dryer door needs a good pull to open but persevere as it will open! The double bed ⦠so super comfortable! Cannot fault the cottage at all and would highly recommend it! Thank you to the owners for sharing such a delight! Note to Sykes: the TV is a Smart TV and there is no longer a DVD player at the cottage as per listing.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay in Sedbergh where we stayed at Brant View.
The cottage was amazing, exactly as described and more. There were 6 of us staying at the cottage, 4 adults and 2 children (14 &10) due to the size of Brant we never felt on top of each other and always had our space. Everything we needed was provided from towels to utensils. Mrs Joyce is so friendly and welcoming and was a pleasure to deal with from arranging the key collection to offering us advice in what to do and places to go. My 2 boys loved the daily visits from the dogs and were so sad to say goodbye. The cottage has some absolutely stunning views and is incredibly peaceful and relaxing. We would have absolutely no hesitation in booking again and highly recommend if you are looking for a trip to Cumbria and the Lakes. Sedbergh is a great little town, I highly recommend the local butchers if you require some meat (pies are incredible and cheap) and if you fancy a meal out you certainly canât go wrong with the Italian Al Forno.

Been Twice to this cottage now .
Lovely Location & very well equipped & beautifully thought out interior. The owner is a lovely lady who is very friendly & helpful on the phone & a bubbly personality. There are only a few minor niggles like a lack of a steamer for cooking vegetables healthily,& some long life milk to go with the tea/coffee already provided & maybe a new rug to replace the one under the brown leather settee as it is a bit tired looking. But these are very minor issues compared to so many positive & wonderfully good points about the property.we are 99% happy with property & location. We have booked for next year already which shows how happy we are. Loved the Red Wine provided in such a beautiful designed Kitchen & Glorious Designed Bathroom& Very Comfortable Bedrooms . You can tell the owner is a Lady with a fine eye for interior design . All credit goes to her good taste.
