  Whilst the property was well equipped it did look like it had been furnished with odds and sods.

  The cleanliness was poor and the property was very tired with some furniture and various decorating issues. There were trailing wires in the lounge which could have caused problems. There were cables hanging down underneath the kitchen cupboards. These are really a safeguarding issue. Upon contacting Sykes the call handler made all the right noises regarding attending to same and promised to call back. When chasing the same handler said they had contacted the owner as Sykes were not responsible for maintenance of property. I disagreed as I had a contract with them not the owner and asked for their Manager to call me which never happen. I’ve did contact owner but didn’t come to inspect the property and I provided photos and a video to highlight the state of the accommodation. When highlighting the state of the back space and rotten gate the owner said the outside space wasn’t really for use but there is a washing machine and line plus an outside shed for the storage of bikes if needed. The gate could not be used so if s bike was being stored it would have had to go through the cottage.

  Just back from long weekend at Strathmore in Wooler. Absolutely fantastic cottage, beautifully decorated and furnished, real home from home, everything you could possibly need and more for your stay. Beautiful welcome hamper and fresh home made scones and a lovely touch of personalised bars of chocolate for each of the children. Well stocked cupboard full of toys and games for children of all ages. Lovely garden with large swing and bonus of a hot tub. Whole family had a brilliant time, would highly recommend it. Owner of cottage was lovely, she made a courtesy call to make sure everything was OK and to just ring her if there were any issues. Which there certainly wasn’t, no complaints at all. Definitely worth 5 stars.

  Strathmore was an excellent property for a large family gathering. There was plenty of room to move about without feeling you are on top of each other. The house was well equipped to make it a very comfortable stay for both adults and children. Lots of things to do in the area. The garden was enclosed which is great for young children and our family dog. Charming and very homely house with everything you need! The welcome basket was great and we really enjoyed sampling a lot of local produce. Our grandchildren were delighted with the chocolate bars which had their own names on. We also had a lovely home made cake which was delicious and was scoffed at the first opportunity. The bread was also delicious!

  We have had a fantastic time at this property and we would highly recommend it. There was everything we needed for our stay in the house and I mean everything, from the delicious food hampers, to the towels and crockery (there was even a hamper for our dog), we had everything we needed to make our stay fabulous. The village was nice and quiet but it had everything we needed, including a bakery, butchers, post office, tourist information centre, fish shop and a Co-op. It even has takeaways if you didn’t want to cook but we enjoyed cooking the gorgeous local food. We enjoyed everything about the property, the beds were comfortable, it was lovely and clean, the kids really enjoyed the hot tub.

  Fabulous house and amenities; extra unexpected surprises and touches made the entire stay wonderful. Word of mouth recommendation was important. Also the photos and facilities shown on the website convinced me to book. The information file was fantastic – so much work and effort has gone into this. We liked everything in the welcome basket, but in particular, the personalised chocolate for the child in our party was such a thoughtful addition. The owner came to meet us and helped us to understand how to work the hot tub – I had rung for advice, but didn’t expect such personal service – wonderful! We liked the decor and cleanliness.
